Bicycle Safety

  May 23, 2012

Once again the nice weather is approaching and we will be riding our bikes.  All bicyclists must follow the rules of the road.  We must stop at stop signs, signal when making turns or stopping, using hand signals.  We must ride on right side of the road with traffic.  All bikes must have horn or bell, reflectors or a light if they are being rode after dark (Front and Back).  The bicyclist must be seen as well.  We can wear reflective clothing or reflective helmets.  Every one who rides should wear a helmet.

Safety tips to start your spring bike riding off right…

  • Make sure your helmet fits and the straps are not ripped
  • Inspect your bike
  • Check the chain, oil it if needed
  • Check the brakes i.e. peddle or hand brakes
  • Check the seat, make sure it’s tights and does not move
  • Check wheels make sure they are secure
  • Check the tires, make sure they are inflated properly
  • Make sure you have a light and signaling device on the bike
  • Wipe the bike down
