Do I need a Permit for a shed?

Yes. A Permit is required if the gross floor area of the proposed shed is greater than 144 square feet. Pre-built sheds are authorized but we require manufacturer’s information illustrating the construction of the shed and how it will be secured to the ground.

What are the requirements for a pool?

Any above ground pool with a depth of over 18 inches requires a Permit.

In ground pools require a plot plan showing the property lines and proposed location of the pool. There are also specific New York State regulations with respect to guard fences and warning devices.

The Building Department can advise you on these requirements.

Do I need a Permit to install a wood stove or gas fireplace?

Yes. We require a copy of the manufacturer’s instructions with your Permit application.

How long is a Permit good for?

Permits are valid for one year from the date of issue.

Do I need a Permit to install a fence?

No, unless the fence is part of an enclosure surrounding an in ground pool or an above ground pool less than 48 inches above grade.

Do I need a Permit to install a deck?

Yes.  We require two sets of scaled drawings showing how the structure is to be built.

Is a permit required for painting, wallpapering, tiling, or carpeting?

No.
