Our main purpose is to “render assistance upon request by the Menands Fire Company No. 1. Inc, and to promote good will and friendship among our neighbors.” Our meetings are held on the second Wednesday’s once a month from September till June. Our actual meeting length is about 30-45 minutes, with a social gathering afterward. i.e. coffee and dessert, wine and cheese party, etc… We have an initiation fee of $5 and annual membership fee of $5. We have elected officers, the positions are as follows: President Joyce McGovern-Miller Vice President Kerry Wroblewski Secretary Sheila Hyatt Treasurer Mary Miles Chaplain Diane Leonard Sergeant at Arms Karen Fortsch 3rd year Trustee Megan Lawrence 2nd year Trustee Nancy O’Keefe-Sposito 1st year Trustee Lisa Proskin We have by-laws and operate by rules of order. We have sub-committee’s such as: Sunshine Ways and Means Membership Telephone Emergency 711 Liasion Officer Photographer Publicity Historian By Laws Kitchen Our organization has begun to renew a bigger role in our community with different fundraisers and community events. Such as Pancake Breakfast’s, Turkey Dinner’s, Fish Fry Dinner (during Lent) and around the holiday’s we would generously give to either a local organization or community neighbor in need. We were also very successful with our very own Village Cookbook. Recipes were collected from village residents and compiled into a cookbook for all to purchase.Our Auxiliary has marched in the various Fire company parades both local and long distance, and our annual installation of officers along with the Fire Company ceremony is usually held at a local establishment with dinner and dancing. We combine the Fire Company and Auxiliary Christmas dinner is in conjunction with in June our meeting is held in Ganser Smith Park with a picnic to follow. We contribute each year to a scholarship to a graduating Menands Student.
