Q: What is the Village of Menands Clerk’s Office?

A: The Village Clerk’s Office provides administrative support to the Mayor and Village Board, maintains the minutes of all Village Board Meetings and posts meeting schedules for all regular and special Village Board meetings, public hearings, and Zoning Board of Appeals meetings.

The Clerk’s office issues handicapped parking permits, vendor permits, park permits and freedom of information requests. The Village Clerk is responsible for all Village records including property records. Notary services are available. The Registrar of Vital Statistics for Menands is also located in this office.The Village Office prepares and mails a bi-weekly newsletter to Village residents.

All financials, including claims for payment and Village employees’ payroll, are prepared in the Village Office.

Though the assessing of Village property lies with the Town of Colonie, Menands is responsible for the collection of Village taxes and water and sewer charges.

Q: When are Village Tax Bills mailed and payable?

A: Village Tax Bills are mailed on June 1 and payable on or before June 30th. If paid in July, a 5% interest and penalty is added and, each month thereafter, a 1% interest and penalty is added. Taxes, including interest and penalty, may be paid to the Village of Menands until October 31. On November 1 any delinquent Village tax bills will be sent to the County of Albany for collection.

Q: When are Water/Sewer Bills mailed and payable?

A: Water/Sewer bills are mailed 2 times a year, July 1 and January 1. They are payable on or before the last day of those months. If the July bill is paid in August, a 2% interest and penalty charge is added and 1% each month thereafter. If the July bill is not paid by November 30th, it will be added to the January 1 bill. If the January bill is not paid by April 30, the entire amount, including interest and penalty, will be transferred to your Village Tax Bill as reassessed water.
