Meeting Minutes – March 7th, 2011

The regular semi-monthly meeting of the Board of Trustees of the Village of Menands, held on March 7th, 2011 was called to order by Deputy Mayor Timothy A. Lane at 7:00 P.M.

Also attending: Bill Garvey, Paul Cooney, Theresa Montanye, Magdalena Rivera, Dave & Pattie Archambault, Mark Groesbeck, Steve O’Connell, Alison McLean-Lane, Peter Molinaro, Kirk Montanye, Mike, Steurer, Brad Gallotta, David Ognan, Robert Schanz, James Sher, Rick Ognan, Kim Cohen, Andy Cohen, Chief O’Brien, John Murphy, Sher McCauley.

The Deputy Mayor led the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Deputy Mayor Lane advised everyone that Officer Andy Cohen was being honored for his actions during a fire at Village One Apartments, when he saved a life. Deputy Mayor Lane then read a letter from Mayor Coates on behalf of the Board and residents of the Village thanking Andy for his actions. After which Chief O’Brien presented Andy with an accommodation and a life saving pin.

Steve O’Connell advised the Board that Little League season is upon us and that opening day is scheduled for Saturday, April 23rd and all are invited to attend. He also thanked the Board for all the help they and the DPW provided in the past and asked for the help again this year in getting the fields, etc. ready.

Dave Archambault and Magdalena Rivera discussed the flooding on Louis Avenue that happened Sunday and Monday. Everyone was reminded that the Mayor has scheduled an informational meeting for residents of Louis and Cemetery Avenues on Wednesday, March 16th at 7:00 P.M. at the Firehouse.

A motion was made by Trustee Lansing seconded by Trustee Miller to accept the minutes of the February 22nd, 2011 meeting.

A motion was made by Trustee Lansing seconded by Trustee Grenier to approve payment for the following:

WARRANT #19:

GENERAL totaling $37,747.70

WATER totaling 697.85

SEWER totaling 100.00

TOTAL $38,545.55

 

PAYROLL # 20: totaling $78,260.55

The Clerk read a request from the Fire Department to use a Fire Truck in the St. Patrick’s Parade on the Saturday, March 12th after which Trustee Lansing moved seconded by Trustee Grenier a resolution authorizing the Fire Department to use a fire truck in the Albany St. Patrick’s Day Parade on the March 12th.

The Clerk discussed a request from the Fire Department to purchase tarps to be carried on the trucks for use at a fire if needed. After which Trustee Lansing moved seconded by Trustee Grenier a motion authorizing the purchase.

The Clerk advised the Board he needed a resolution authorizing the Mayor to sign the agreement with the Town of Colonie for the use of the Town’s Police Range and Training Facility. After which Trustee Lansing moved seconded by Trustee Grenier a resolution authorizing the Mayor to sign the agreement.

Trustee Grenier inquired if the DPW had gotten the hydrant markers yet. The Clerk will check.

 

Deputy Mayor Lane advised everyone that the Village wide Earth Day Clean-Up is planned for April 16th more information will follow in the Activities.

 

Deputy Mayor Lane asked for a moment of silence for Election Inspector Vince Spataro whom passed away this weekend. Vince was a long time resident and supporter of the Village.

 

The Clerk advised the Board that the 2011 GFOA Conference is scheduled for April 6th – 8th, 2011 at the Albany Marriott Hotel. Anyone wishing to attend should let him know so he can make arrangements.

 

The Clerk also informed the Board that reservations for Ganser Smith Park started Tuesday, March 1st, 2011 at 8:00 A.M.

 

A motion was made by Trustee Lansing seconded by Trustee Grenier to adjourn.
